About the albumFourteen new Artisan songs, all written by Brian Bedford We recorded this in June 2000, though some of the songs were written as far back as 1993. When you spend most of your year "on the road," it's sometimes difficult to find a space in the schedule for recording, so we planned this session well in advance. We like to keep things simple, so what you hear on the CD is us and only us. Though in some cases (like "You Are There" we have actually turned ourselves into a 12 voice choir on the choruses, thanks to the miracles or modern technology. Back to top of page. |

ReviewsSing Out Magazine, USA, 2001Dancing With WordsJacey Bedford, Brian Bedford and Hilary Spencer are the a cappella trio Artisan from Yorkshire, England, known for their tight harmonies and dense lyrics. Here again is no flimsy offering. Their full sound is created by three strong voices that know how to play with each other's talents. They pack politics, humor and relationships tightly into those sweet blends, varying in intensity, speed and volume. The group's arrangements always meet the demands of Brian's lyrics. The group's composer, Brian Bedford, has yet to receive the accolades he is due as a masterful songwriter. He is both prolific and gifted in many a musical genre. His lines and melodies are catchy, yet lasting as they rise and fall as if calling for the melody line given them. On the vocal front, Hilary's strong midrange establishes the melody, Brian floats between bass and tenor with Jacey, as she puts it herself, filling in the missing bits. On dancing With Words, topics engage you in frolics around politics. mosquitoes and misunderstanding. The Three voices form a brilliant blend, backed by material that merits their superb harmony. Artisan is already a favourite at many festivals. This trio's new release does them justice. There is nothing Artisan needs to add or do better; the only thing they need and deserve is a wider audience. --Angela Page in Song Out Magazine, USA, 2001 And from fans...Guess what? Friends brought your new CD back from Lunenburg for me and I
just love it! I have been trying to select a favourite song but I can't. Among
my favourites are: You Are There, Go With a Smile on my Face, Too Old to Care
and I Ain't Going Down. I feel most fortunate to be among the first to receive
this new treasure. Glad you enjoyed Lunenburg, hope to see you in Saint John
some day. Love the new album, it's hard to pick a favorite. |

© Brian Bedford - March 2000
It could have been only a cloud that passed us by
And
after we would make up and both of us would cry
But somewhere in the
darkness a storm began to brew
You saw another me; I saw another you
It could have been only a moment to regret
A kiss would make it better and we would both forget
But somehow in the stillness a glance and we both knew
You saw another me; I saw another you
It could have been different a chance to make amends
To grow a little closer to learn how to be friends
It could have been different a chance to put things right
Just another dark time that gave way to the light
It could have been only a coolness in air
A hug and we would make up and say that we still cared
But somehow in that coldness through the icy wind that blew
You saw another me; I saw another you
It could have been different perhaps we should have known
Time to be together time to be alone
It could have been different a smile and we'd recall
Somewhere in tomorrow a stumble not a fall
It could have been different a tempest we would ride
Two hands would make it better we'd stand there side by side
But somehow in that instant too late to pretend
More than just a moment a moment and an end
It could have been only a cloud that passed us by
And after we would make up and both of us would cry
But somewhere in the darkness a storm began to brew
You saw another me I saw another you
It could have been only a moment to regret
A kiss would make it better and we would both forget
But somehow in the stillness a glance and we both knew
You saw another me I saw another you
